Accoya windows London — this project is a full supply of timber windows and doors for a period semi in the city. The customer needed everything replaced: bay window at the front, casement windows throughout, and French doors at the rear, all in a material built to last.

About This Project

The property is a typical 1930s London semi — pebbledash render, red brick base, the kind of period home that needs windows and doors which look right without drawing attention to themselves. The original timber had deteriorated and the brief was straightforward: replace like for like in a material that won’t cause problems down the line.

We manufactured and supplied a front bay window in Accoya, along with matching casement windows and a set of rear French doors. All units were spray finished in white in our workshop before being delivered to site. The customer arranged their own fitter — we supply only, we don’t offer a fitting service.

Why Accoya Timber?

Accoya is modified acetylated timber — the wood is treated at a molecular level to make it far more stable and durable than regular softwood or most hardwoods. It won’t shrink, swell or rot, which is exactly what you want in a London climate where the weather changes constantly and windows take a beating year-round.

It’s rated Class 1 for durability and carries a 50-year above-ground guarantee. It also holds paint exceptionally well over time — less cracking, less peeling, and fewer redecoration cycles. For spray-finished joinery, that matters a lot.

Accoya Windows for Period Properties in London

Period properties in London present a specific set of challenges. The windows often need to match existing profiles and proportions — a standard off-the-shelf unit rarely fits, and anything that looks out of place stands out badly on a well-kept street. Accoya windows London suppliers tend to work to bespoke sizes for exactly this reason.

Accoya also ticks the box for conservation areas. It can be machined to match traditional profiles — ovolo beads, staff bead details, traditional sightlines — so it sits naturally in a period context without compromising on durability. Many London boroughs accept Accoya as a like-for-like timber replacement where original timber windows and doors are specified.

The bay window on this project is a good example. Bay windows on 1930s semis tend to have a particular geometry — wide cills, angled returns, multiple opening lights — and getting the proportions right matters. Ours was manufactured to the exact dimensions of the original, spray finished in white, and delivered ready to install.

Spray Finished in White

All the windows and doors on this project were spray finished in white before leaving our workshop. Spray finishing gives a far more even, consistent coat than brush or roller — no brush marks, no runs, and the finish gets into all the rebates and moulding details properly. On Accoya, which takes paint exceptionally well, the result is a clean, hard-wearing finish that looks good from day one and stays that way.
